Unfortunately, accidents caused by unsafe balconies are all too common. Unsuspecting victims feel safe at their home, but do not realize their railings are faulty until it is too late. There are also cases when building code requires a railing to be present, yet there isn’t one. In these cases, injuries and death could have been completely prevented if apartment management hadn’t cut corners. Safety and following proper building codes should always be a priority.
Here is the scenario:
1) Architects design apartment railings to comply with the building codes;
2) The brackets and screws manufactured in China may not comply with the architectural drawings;
3) Untrained contractors and installers attach the brackets and screws to purportedly secure the railings. Those brackets and screws may not hold the railings securely;
4) Folks on the balconies lean on the railings, which give way, and young and mature people fall to their death or injury.
At the Law Offices of Bob Osburn, we have a record of success in representing families and loved ones when tragedy strikes. The construction projects we have worked on recently demonstrate the negligence of the contractors and the installers and property owners and property managers. Our goal is to cause the entire apartment complex to be retrofitted with correct screws and brackets and to obtain adequate compensation for the injured persons and the families of the deceased.
